🚨 Floods Hit Jonglei β€” Here's How We Responded in 48 Hours

When heavy rains caused severe flooding in Jonglei State, thousands of families lost their homes, livestock, and belongings overnight. Diko Creative Initiatives (DCI) activated our emergency response team immediately to reach the most affected communities.

Within 48 hours, our teams reached remote villages with critical Non-Food Items (NFIs) including tarpaulins, blankets, mosquito nets, and hygiene kits. We also distributed clean water treatment chemicals and conducted rapid hygiene promotion sessions to prevent disease outbreaks in the flooded areas.

Working closely with local leaders and community volunteers, we prioritized vulnerable groups β€” pregnant women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Our integrated approach combined immediate relief with early recovery support, helping families rebuild safer shelters and restore basic sanitation.

The rapid response prevented a larger health crisis. Families received life-saving supplies and knowledge to protect themselves from waterborne diseases common after floods. This quick action reflects DCI’s commitment to being first on the ground when disasters strike.

Emergencies like this remind us how fragile livelihoods are in South Sudan. DCI continues to strengthen community resilience through disaster preparedness training and sustainable WASH infrastructure so that future floods cause less suffering.
