πŸ’§ 35,000 People Now Have Clean Water in South Sudan Thanks to You

Access to clean water in South Sudan is still a major challenge for millions of people, particularly in rural and conflict-affected areas. For years, many communities have relied on unsafe water sources such as rivers, ponds, and open wells, exposing families to serious health risks including cholera and diarrhea. Women and children often walk long distances daily to fetch water, limiting opportunities for education and economic activities. Through its Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programs, Diko Creative Initiatives (DCI) is working to transform this reality by bringing safe and sustainable water solutions directly to communities.

In a recent initiative, DCI successfully provided clean and safe drinking water to over 35,000 people in South Sudan through the construction and rehabilitation of boreholes across regions such as Jonglei and surrounding areas. These boreholes serve as reliable water sources, significantly reducing the time and effort required to collect water. For many families, this means improved health, increased productivity, and the ability for childrenβ€”especially girlsβ€”to attend school regularly instead of spending hours searching for water.

Beyond infrastructure, the project also focused on hygiene promotion and community engagement to ensure long-term impact. DCI trained local water management committees responsible for maintaining the boreholes and managing water access sustainably. Communities were also educated on safe water handling, sanitation practices, and hygiene behaviors such as handwashing, which are essential in preventing waterborne diseases. This integrated approach ensures that the benefits of clean water extend beyond immediate access to lasting improvements in public health.

The impact of this project is already visible. Communities that once struggled with unsafe water now enjoy improved well-being, reduced disease outbreaks, and enhanced quality of life. Schools and health facilities also benefit from reliable water sources, creating safer environments for learning and healthcare delivery. This initiative demonstrates the power of targeted WASH interventions in South Sudan and how access to clean water can transform entire communities.

At DCI, we believe that clean water is not a privilege but a basic human right. The success of this project is a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration, community involvement, and sustainable solutions. As we continue to expand our efforts, we remain committed to reaching more underserved communities and ensuring that everyone in South Sudan has access to safe water, improved sanitation, and a healthier future.
